A working fishing village, Leland’s Fishtown is uniquely Michigan. Situated between the mouth of the Leland (Carp) river and Lake Michigan, the town is home to two fish tugs, smoke house and retail fish store as well as restaurants, shops of numerous artists, charter fishing operations and the ferry that services the Manitou islands and a hotel. Most of my work reflects life in the Keweenaw. But having grown up in Leland, it’s still a special place to me (as it is to probably anyone who has visited it).
